The thoughts of the Diligent

Pr 21: 5 ¶ The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want. Saw this picture, and my Canadian roots made me think about the industrious beaver depicted on our coins, a symbol of work… Pr 10:16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: […]

beaver
I have been thinking about the word diligent this morning:
diligent
I read this Scripture, and decided to look up a few more:

Pr 21: 5 ¶ The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

Saw the beaver picture, and my Canadian roots made me think about the industrious beaver depicted on our coins, a symbol of work…

Pr 10:16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

Pr 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

Pr 12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Pr 14:23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

diligent

Our work produces prosperity, and it seems that when we are diligent in what God has called us to do, we see plenteousness, blessing, abundance, in every area of life. Notice here that abundance begins in our thought life, we need to see it first in our mind, and then in the hustle and bustle of our muscle applied to a dream or a project, great things occur. Notice Proverbs 14:23 here, there is work involved with the dream. Just talking about it doesn’t get the job done, in fact, it leads to poverty.

obedience-action
I could say I’m called of God, and then pretend to be praying, while surfing the internet, watching videos, or being entertained, but there would be no substance to what I teach or preach, you can get by on a few hymns, quips, and quotes to break the ice in a meeting, but God has no dumb sheep, we all have the mind of Christ. If we claim to be leading for God, we need to be going somewhere, and if we claim to be feeding the flock of God, we need to have fresh bread, broken and fresh from the oven of our prayer life, hot from the coals of heaven! No one wants stale, moldy bread, too hard to even break or chew!

stale-bread

Jesus is the bread of life, and I have determined to spend my life, preparing, baking, and serving the fresh bread of His Word to His people, in the heart and center of a God given vision being accomplished progressively for as long as He might leave me here in the earth. How about you?

bread-of-life1
Are you hungry?

Or are you filled up with the things of this life that will never satisfy…

There is a hunger in every heart, that only Jesus can fill!

Let’s pray:

‘Father, here we are again, hungry to know you more. Show us the area’s were are called to work for you, and help us to be faithful and diligent in them, in your name I pray Lord Jesus, Amen.”

Count the COST!

Count the Cost!
cost
Hear these words of Jesus today:
Luke 14: 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

In business, in construction, we carefully calculate labor and materials into every project we build, then aggressively fight to bring the project in on time, on budget, consistantly, with no compromise to quality of workmanship. If you do this well, you remain in business, and if you do it really well, you will make a lot of money over the years. This discipline over years, has been good training in life.

In construction, money is the yardstick by which most projects are measured. You do a good job, and you make money. You mess up, you lose money, sometimes a whole lot of money.
self-control
As I transition from construction back to ministry, money has been been glaringly absent from my life and family, yet the things I had to do to build a construction company, the disciplines of life, are still ingrained in my character.

When we started the company, we had no money, no tools, no contracts, simply a dissatisfaction that we were not being paid enough for our skill and abilities, and we proved this to be true. From two men sharing vehicles with our wives, and some basic tools, we worked, sweated, and performed with excellence in the rough and tumble world of the construction and remodel industry. What began as barely making enough to live, became a company that did $900,000 in one year of business employing 23 great people, eight years later.

million
Then, came the Word from the Lord, to leave it all, and to preach the gospel. All these years of reading, meditating, praying, working, seeking Jesus, all the study in the Bible colleges, suddenly met Jesus, and He has commanded me to step back into the gospel, with no visible means of support.

Each day, He holds me responsible to do several things: Pray my prayer list, (for you and your family) produce these daily devotions, read through y daily Bible reading plan (http://oneyearbibleonline.com/daily-oyb/?version=51&startmmdd=0101) and to get to the gym and exercise. From the first two myriads of things are occurring, books being written (going to complete #4, today, #5 in the works), speaking engagements, ministry, missions trips, doors open at church, course work at seminary to complete my Masters degree, and accompanying signs, wonders, and miracles!
read-bible
Very similar to when we began the construction company, had no money, but a clear confidence that we were of more use to the construction industry as business owners, that mere carpenters. I honestly believe, I have something to contribute to the rebuilding of America, and as a voice to the nations. The deposit of God’s Word, years of reading book, after book, and sermon after sermon, has built something incredibly powerful in me, so like myriads of folks before me, I have set my eyes on the prize, and seek Jesus, with all my heart, as He directs my steps. To those who have never done this, I’m crazy, neglecting my family, foolish in leaving my career, needing balance…To Jesus, I make headlines in heaven, and am having eternal consequence in the earth. How about you? Have you given Him your all? Are you in the center of His perfect will for your life?

‘Let’s Pray:
‘Father, there are some who need to hear my testimony today. May it encourage them to step out in faith, trusting you fully for everything, hearing and obeying your voice, May You help us to seek You first in everything, and read our Bible every day of 2017, in your name I pray Lord Jesus, Amen’

Workers in the Vineyard – Be Led!

Workers in the Vineyard

In today’s text I read:

Matt 20:13 But he answered one of them, Friend, I am doing you no injustice. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?
14 Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this man hired last the same as I give to you.
15 Am I not permitted to do what I choose with what is mine? [Or do you begrudge my being generous?] Is your eye evil because I am good?
16 So those who [now] are last will be first [then], and those who [now] are first will be last [then]. [d]For many are called, but few chosen.

Four things I see in this that are helpful to me:
deal

1. Every man cuts his own deal. Job and financial opportunities come to us all the time, we decide what we are worth. Certain positions only pay certain amounts, and some money is always better than no money, but we should be looking to be in the right field, working for the right Master, that values us and rewards us well for our efforts. If we are self employed, Jesus is our direct Master, and we need to be diligently seeking Him for His direction, promotion, provision, favor and means of maximizing our effort for maximum result.
show up1
2. The opportunity offered was open to many, but only a few even showed up at the place of service.
generosity-jesus
3. The pay was no based upon longevity, faithfulness, or service, but only upon the generosity of the Master. Our income can radically increase when we obey Jesus. Availability trumps ability. Obedience is better than sacrifice and hard work.
make-the-grade
4. Only a few may make the grade. Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. Read this parable carefully. Ten servants were called, only three showed up to give a report of their stewardship. The one who buried his talent, lost it, which means that only two out of ten servants, were ever heard from in Scripture again. Eight disqualified themselves! It is imperative that we not only hear the voice of Jesus, but that we obey quickly, and give it everything we’ve got!
God speaks
What is He saying to You, today? How can we maximize our effectiveness for the King today?

Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams

Let’s Pray:
Lets pray
‘Father, life is busy, with many opportunities to work, grow, learn, and move forward. Help us to fully obey you, that we might maximize our eternal impact today, and every day. We ask, knowing we are heard and answered, for we ask in Your name Lord Jesus, Amen’

Sharpen Your Blade!

Sharpen your Blade!
sparks
Pr 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

We walk in love, and operate by faith. This verse reminds me of something I heard some years ago, during a leadership meeting.

The minister read this verse, and made the statement: “Seems God takes great delight, when strong leaders, both moving in the same direction, hit each other a glancing blow, and to those on the outside looking in, sparks fly!

He went on to say, that it reminded him of a cole chisel, that if you hit it from the side, it simply sharpens the cutting edge, that you only dull it if you hit head on.

I am a strong leader, and sometimes in my passion and zeal, in working with other leaders, sparks fly. My prayer is that I never dull anothers edge, but that we continually sharpen one another in the love of God.

Pr 9:8 : rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

I am the kind of guy that would rather have someone confront and correct me when I am wrong, than gossip behind my back about me. Bring it on! If I’m wrong, I will quickly repent, receive instruction, and correct myself, and lets get back in the fight, together.

Pr 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Yep, faith produces God’s power, and as we move in the anointing to reap harvests in God, we can cut a wide swath. However, while all this reaping, moving and shaking is going on, the oil that makes the combine move, must be the love of God.

scythe
Ga 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Let’s work our faith, but let’s keep love flowing, so that we can continually sharpen one another, even when the sparks are flying!

I have learned in life, that I either grow in responsibility, or I gotta go…

I either allow myself to be instructed, or I become part of the problem.

Here is my question to you today: ‘Who are you going to sharpen today, and who are you going to allow to sharpen you?’

I would love to hear your thoughts…

Let’s Pray:
‘Father, we love you, and are determined to make an impact with our lives, and bear much fruit for the gospel. Let us not be a stumbling block to the people you have called us to walk with, serve with, and support, and may kingdom conflict only produce the sharpening of our blade, as we encourage one another on to even great exploits, for your kingdom and your glory. Amen’

Increase Your Ability Before Investing…

Ability before Investment capital
'Ability before Investment capital
Matt 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
You know the story, a man, a nobleman, invested in his employees, some investment capital, before he went on a journey to become king. He did this, according to their ability!
Therefore ability precedes investment capital.
Use what talents you possess: The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.
Henry Van Dyke, Bits & Pieces, March 31, 1994, p. 16.
You know the rest of the story, one received five cities, the other ten, because they were faithful with the ability, they had been given.
Question: What are we doing today to increase our abilities to lead today, because the welfare of the people we are called to influence in the cities we are to exercise our gifts in, depends upon it!
Let’s pray:
“Father God, increase my ability today. Teach me, help me to read the right books, articles, and Scripture to grow in my gift and calling today, in your name I pray Lord Jesus, Amen”'

Format:

We encourage people to read through the Bible each year using whatever yearly Bible reading plan works for them. I use the OneYearBibleOnline, Victory has a good one, YouVersion has one. I encourage people to pick one, and read it.

Couple of years back we all read: http://waterbrookmultnomah.com/pdf/Sample_RichestManWhoEverLived.pdf

Great book by Steven K Scott. Great resource. He encourages people to meet and read a chapter of proverbs each day, and discuss it.

Proverbs – Whatever date we meet, we will read the chapter of proverbs from that date.

Discussion: Depending on how many people come, we will either simply go around the table and let everyone share, or if many come, we will break into small groups of 5-6 people, so everyone gets a chance to share.

We will begin promptly at 7:30AM and dismiss at 8:30Am.

If people want to stay, they are free to do so, but many of us gotta get to work.

Finances:

Jesus is to be Lord of this meeting, although I will do what I can to lead it. (Kinda like herding cats).

What this means, is simple: If we decide to do a project together, and we take up an offering together for it, I will provide tax receipts for donors, and make myself accountable for the handling of any money raised, and how it is spent. (full disclosure). If we do some kind of mega-project (which I suspect will probably happen, we serve a big God), we will probably register some sort of entity, form a board etc.

However, since Jesus is Lord of this thing, and I am not, I encourage people going on missions trips, or doing neat things for the kingdom of God to make their needs known. It does not hurt my feelings one bit to help a person get where they need to go in God, and count it an honor to serve them as they go. There is no ‘big I’ and little you in the kingdom of God. We are all loved equally by a holy God.  If someone at our table is doing something for the kingdom of God, give money to them, not to me.

Suggestion: We keep a basic slush fund going to buy anyone that might need it coffee that morning, breakfast, or a tank of gas to get to work. It can be a long wait between checks when you are self-employed.

Manhood – A Bit of Redneck Righteousness

Redneck Righteousness – A challenge to manhood

redneck Jesus
It has been said that a Redneck is a guy, who grew up country. A rough and ready kind of guy, that is a man of action, taking care of business. Strong.

I originally wrote this on veterans day, a time to honor freedom, and the men who give it to us…

Most of you who know me, know that I have worked construction many years, and co-owned a millwork company in the rough and tumble of Oklahoma for seven years.

Here I think of some of the oilmen, ranchers, construction workers, military, police, and firemen I have met over the years, that would embrace these seven claims to manhood.

Men who love God, their families and this country.

Seven Claims of Manhood

1. A Man keeps his word – Word given, word kept

redneck word
Ps 15:4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

Heard a preacher preach this verse one day, made me chuckle: Psalm 50:9 (RSVCE) |
9 I will accept no bull from your house

redneck bull
Our words should count! We do not need to be cute and full of show and no go. Say what you mean, and mean what you say, and you will be respected.

Read Job 29, the whole chapter and see what a man of God, respected in the community and by God looks like:

I pick it up here in verse:
8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
9 The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth

Be that man!

2. Finishes what He starts:

redneck finish
Re 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Re 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

If you bit off more than you can chew: chew! Get yourself some help if you need to, but finish what you start. The world is full of dreamers, schemers, and wanna be’s. Be a man of conviction, if you start something, finish it.

redneck excuse
3. Keeps a good name –

Many of you know, my father served 32 years as a naval officer. I grew up on military bases all over the place, but have learned that no matter where in the world you are, you need to keep a good name….

Pr 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Ec 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

redneck nameWhy is the day of our death better than the day of our birth? Because if we have served God, when we die, we enter into our eternal reward, the rest of the Lord we have worked our whole life for.

Don’t get all proud and haughty over this one. What I want to say here is stay faithful to God, and stay in the fight. When you do, you will end up with a good name, God Himself will make sure of it. You don’t need to blow your own horn:

John 12:26
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

All these people running around promoting themselves, get outta the rat race. You are not a rat, you are running a different kind of race.

Proverbs 27:2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

God is not deaf nor blind. If you seek Him first, and put Him and His Word first place in your every decision, your promotion will come, and nothing and no one can stop it. Keep learning, growing, developing, and He will open doors for you that no man can shut.

Psalm 75: 5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.
6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another

Servanthood, honesty and hard work will promote you, God has set these things in the earth for our eternal development, embrace the process. Read, learn, and grow…Push your limits, find a way around your limitations…

4. Attends Church –

redneck church
Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Need some more reasons? Read this: https://chrisaomministries.wordpress.com/2014/12/04/why-go-to-church/

Find yourself a good, life-giving, Bible believing church, where you can raise your family in truth. Shop if you need to. You do not need to attend the one you grew up in, if it is poison, and an inbred brood of snakes. Go somewhere with vision, where you can worship, serve, love people, and walk with Jesus.

reneck be church

Never let your church become your God, Jesus alone reserves that place…six men

5. Protects and Provides for His Family, Home, Community, and nation

redneck work
1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Go to work!

Proverbs 14:23
In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

The old saying: ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions’ has some truth in it. Intending to do something, and doing it are different animals. Get busy with what you know to do, and plan your work, and work your plan.

If you have been around the block a couple of times, we have all seen the latest greatest ‘get rich quick’ scheme, and truth be told, some of them actually work, IF YOU WORK THEM! There is no free lunch in life. Whatever you put your hand to, you gotta work at, and not half heartedly, go for it!

Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

We only have one life to live, and living in light of eternity, with passion, purpose, enthusiasm, determined to write your eternal testimony on the fabric of HISstory is honorable.

reneck Christ

We are all going to die one day, but not today: so let’s bust a move and get something done, make something happen.

Live in such a way, that the great cloud of witnesses in heaven is leaning over the balcony, cheering you on, and each day,
you are putting a smile on Jesus face. I’m not wimpering through death’s door, with a whine of ‘Phew! I made it’, nope, when I hit heaven, it will be with a shout, yelling: ‘Jesus! That was a rush! Now where is David, Paul, and those mighty men I’ve been reading about?’

I’m going out with a shout!

redneck one life
6. Helps folks in tragedy or with the poor

Isa 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

De 15:7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive

Pr 28:27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

Pr 29:7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

Pr 29:13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

Was complaining to a buddy one day, about the homeless guys at the intersection panhandling, that would not work. This wise friend of mine said quietly: ‘I know we can’t give them money, or they will only drink it, so I keep a box of fruit, bottled water, granola bars and stuff in my console, so that when a guy asks me for something, I can at least give them something to eat.’

Made me think back on all the times I’ve been dealt a brutal turn in life, and been knocked down. Gotta help folks…

Wisdom, love, we are all gonna meet God one day, and if we need mercy, we need to give it…

Pr 29:14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.

Help your neighbor, your co-worker. If a guy goes to jail, visit him, and pray with him. If someone loses a loved one, love them, help them get their affairs in order, transition. People leave a big hole when they go, I know, buried eight of my family at one point, felt like a walking zombie for those years, like I’d been sucker punched. Great people walked with me those years and saw me through, now it’s my turn to be one of those great people…Someone ends up in the hospital, go see them. See someone without food or clothes, help them or point them towards help, love children and be a good example to them.

Be strong, stay fit, so that you can help the weak:

There might be someone needing help moving, or a vehicle needing pushed off the road somewhere. The Bible says to glorify God in your body, and to remain strong in the Lord. Be strong!

7. Submits to Righteous authority and Rebukes and prays for unrighteous authority.

Heb 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

1Pe 2:13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

A man of God works hard, and fights to keep his word, strong in the love of God. When he sees someone playing games pretending to know something he doesn’t he is not afraid to speak up and be heard, silencing foolish men.

Jesus is a man under authority, and so are we. We honor just laws and uphold the honor of God and this nation. We are also not afraid to rebuke unjust, corrupt laws, as Deitrich Bonhoeffer said: ‘Silence in the presence of evil, is evil.’

redneck speak
You want respect and authority, you must learn to first submit to righteous authority. Jesus did it, so can you.

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

Mt 8:9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

If you think that you are like a wild stallion, that no one will ever put a rope on you, sign up for the military and learn honor.

You will respect authority, if you want to be respected.

We are to pray for authority, asking God to give them wisdom and help.
1 Tim 2:1 ¶ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Notice this verse: We pray, so that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives, godly and honest.
I get angry when I see television constantly blasting leaders, politicians, or anything honorable. We may hate what a leader is doing, and cannot respect him. Respect the position, not the man! Pray for the office of the President, even if you do not like our current president.

You can stand against abortion, same-sex marriage, lying, bribery and corruption in government, and Islam, and still honor the offices of people in authority. We may hate certain decisions they make, but we can still pray for them, and honor God’s authority in this nation.

This is the verse we have used in our men’s group at church:
1 Peter 2:17
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

This is a very simple look at manhood. I have written a number of articles on manhood:

I think I still need to write one on the importance of a man keeping his word, or watching over it to fulfill it. Sure, stuff comes up, and we cannot always do what we planned, but we can always pick up the phone, and communicate what we are doing, letting people know why we are doing what we are doing: respect…

redneck respect
Let’s pray:
‘Father, make us men of honor, responsibility, respectable, strong, and courageous. Give us wisdom how to treat all people, and to treat all honorably. Make us men of prayer and action, quick to seek you for direction, quick to correct our mistakes, quick to forgive, love, and make wrongs right. Raise us up as pillars in our families, communities, and this nation, in your name we pray Lord Jesus. Amen’

Not by Works- It’s all about love!

Not by Works- It's all about love!

Not by works –

Unmasking performance orientation…

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Not of works, yet created unto good works, Hm!

Well, fasten your seat belts folks, here we go.

In my old time evangelistic preaching, I used to proclaim, Jesus, is the way, the truth and the life, and He wants a personal relationship with you. You can know Him, and He will forgive you, and grant you not only eternal life, but life and life more abundantly, here and now.
Religion has always been man’s works, his rules and regulations, where you work, and work, and work, trying to earn the acceptance and approval of God.

Jesus, is God’s way to reach man.

None of us can ever earn a way into heaven, no matter how hard we work, salvation is a free gift, granted to us by God upon the cross, and our job is to simply receive it.

John 1:12 (AKJV)

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Jesus, God the Son, came, not to make bad people good, nor good people better, rather to make dead people alive!

We who know Him, are unlike any other species on planet earth, we have literally become new creations in Him, God lives in our hearts, our bodies have become His temple.

It is the stewardship and obedience to this life we have received that is the sole focus of heaven!

labor lifeNeither, can we work, and earn any particular grace or blessing from God, because we have earned it!

First, we must believe we receive something, according to either the written or revealed Word, of God, and then, our works of faith will keep in step with the specific leadings and promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Here is the problem:

God loves us, individually, more than the work we do.

He is a jealous God, and desires intimacy with us.

We are designed to be loved, and from the overflow of the love we receive, we love, and work to create a better world.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
labor

The problem is, most of the earthly love we have ever received, that is human love, is conditional.

If you do this, then I will love and reward you. If you do not, I will reject you, and turn my back upon you.

When a baby is born, how much can it do to protect itself? Provide for itself? Feed itself? Care for itself?

Yet, that baby is designed to receive love, care, provision, protection…

What happens, is because of this messed up world, we live in, most children are not loved well.

So, the child grows up, and learns, that in order to be loved and accepted, they have to perform, often like a circus dog, jumping through death defying feats, hoops of fire, and incredible hardship, just to get that treat and pat on the head from its master.

God is not that way!

God is a loving Father, and we He created us, He did it because He wanted a family, He wants children, to love, care for, protect, provide for, that will love Him back. He longs for relationship, and from that relationship of love, He creates wonderful works for us to walk in, works specifically and individually designed, for our unique and individual personalities, gifts, and characters.

Are we going to be provided for? YES!

When He gives us into the earth, He created, for our life, provision for it!

Yet, we are taught, that we must work for that provision.

This is a half a truth, and the problem with half of a truth, is you are not quite sure which half you got.

Yes, there are principals and laws of seedtime and harvest in the earth, that people have operated by, and become wealthy. Yet, working WITH the Lord in His blessing and grace, will bring increase and prosperity:

They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them

Yet, I am dealing with a specific heart condition here.

Wealthy, does not equal Godly prosperity.

Prosperity, God’s way, means having the love, presence, and provision of God, to meet any human need.

I have met wealthy Christians, prospered by God’s own hand.

In general, they are people of integrity, honor, wisdom, and great love and strength.

I have also met wealthy people, who either were godless, or worse yet, religious.

These folks, are mean, or often depraved.

What do I mean by depraved?

Well, all that money will do, is make more of YOU.

If you like wine, women and song, well, more money, will simply produce more wine, more women, and more music and sound systems.

Whatever you like, money will make more of. I have been in homes with exquisite Media rooms, watched wealthy doctors do a line of cocaine upon entry into their homes, or immediately mix a whiskey on the rocks to start the evening. Others, on their second or third marriage, are in bondage to lust, pornography, sex, literally looking for love in all the wrong places.

What if though, you love Jesus?

What if you honestly love people, and seek to better the human condition?

More money for you, is going to build strong churches, Bible schools, orphanages, food to the poor, evangelism, prison outreaches, clothing and humanitarian aid, disaster relief, and works of compassion into the earth.

Here is what the Lord is really dealing with me, Mr. type ‘A’ mover and shaker dude.

Seems that much of what I used to do, was based upon my own initiatives, desires, and motivations.

As the owner of a construction company, I’ve been a ‘getter done’ kind of guy.

Most men are.

Although I have been a Christian, I would simply ‘throw one up there’ prayers in the morning, and then turn on the computer and the phone, and GO!

Used 6000 mins/month on my cell phone, and spent way too much money buying meals for clients, selling work, and making things happen.

Spending money on things I didn’t like, to impress people I sometimes didn’t like, and who often did not like me, because of my walk with the Lord.

While spirit led works are Biblical, flesh and soulical works, produce no eternal consequence.

In this life, and in the long run, these soulical generated works, will self-destruct.

Why?

God loves us, and wants a relationship!

When I have run, and run, and run, and worked and organized, agonized, managed, financed, pushed, and pressed with all of my might, and finally fall at His feet, exhausted, poured out, cored out, at a level of fatigue only another leader can truly understand: He will meet with me.
If I am wise: I will rest, allow Him to pour His Word, and teaching, and refreshment, and the love, strength, comfort, wisdom, and gentle grace that only He can give, and then gently arise, and walk with Him, in wonderful relationship, peace, love, and joy in Holy Spirit.
If I refuse,
Is 30:15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. 16 But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.
17 One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on an hill.
18 ¶ And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

Working in my own strength, my own way, only fulfills:

and your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.
I have learned, through much pain:

Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
If mere hard work, organization, discipline, and zeal were all that was required, Hitler, Napoleon, Kublai Khan and Stalin would have succeeded in their quest to rule the world. Yet, they forgot God…

Here, where I live, the motto of the state of Oklahoma is ‘Labor omnia vincit’, which is Latin for “Hard work conquers all.”

labor Olklahomalabor omnia vincit

Well, I am all for hard work.

Nothing so satisfying as your head hitting the pillow after a productive day, where you hit it, got it, and got it done!

This motto is a reference to the early pioneers of the Oklahoma territory.

Now, perhaps I am unique, (LOL!), but as God has grown and gifted me, I am prone to overdo some things.

Balance is not always one of my strongest qualities, I like to get stuff done.

I understand ‘make something happen’. I have loved faith teaching, that amplifies this thought by ‘grab hold of the promises, and go for it’.

I understand GO!

Yet, God is a very living God, and there are other commands He can give.

How about “STOP!”?
How about “Wait!”
How about “NO!”
How about “Sit down over there, and let me teach you a few things!”

labor Martha

Remember Mary and Martha?

I have seen more executives with high blood pressure, heart attacks, and various health conditions, because things got outta balance, or dare I say, away from God’s will for their lives, over into self will for their lives?

Most of you know my testimony, working some 14-16 hour days for years, without a day off for several years, until I found myself, blacked out at the wheel of my truck, in the median in the middle of Highway 75 coming up from Glenpool, having experienced a mini-stroke. When I finally got to emergency, seems my blood pressure was 200/150, and I had work to do, to regain my health. Took a couple of years, some radical life changes (exercise, diet, sleep, reduced hours at work, and yes, even a couple of vacations!)

Now, I am in a different type of press:
Php 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

press

What does this look like in my life?

Much more prayer, Bible study, journaling, and a firm determination to correctly hear accurately, what I believe God is saying to me, and then gently, quietly, letting Him open doors for my gift and calling, instead of my previous method of kicking down any doors that appeared closed.

Now, I have learned, that just because God speaks about some things HE clearly wants me to do, that perhaps, I might need to learn a few things, about how He wants them done.

Perhaps, so do you.

How many times do I hear of folks, experiencing brutal circumstances, or health conditions, that I believe, could have been averted completely, had they accurately heard and obeyed God.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

He loves you, He really does. You are not an orphan, and you do not need to work to receive His love.

Yet, Jesus sees past the ‘what’ you are doing, to the ‘why’, and I hear Him weeping for many of you today, as you, like a hamster on a treadmill, are running hard, but going nowhere.

One day of God’s favor, one instance of His power demonstrated, one glimpse of His glory, is greater that the sum total of all the work you have ever done, or will do.

Think about it for a second: He is the one who flung the stars into being, created the universe…

It is my prayer, that right now, wherever you are, you hear this word, and take a second to quietly look up into His face, and say hello. Simply because He told me to write this, He’s going to show up, and speak, reveal, and demonstrate to you, His great love for you, His child.

Now, what are you going to do about it?

Are you willing to let Him run your show?

Will you, like me, make a radical decision, that if He does not tell you personally, to do something, in His timing, that you will refuse to do it?

Or, are you gonna run some more?

labor going

Serving the tyranny of unfulfilled expectations from: your own passions and pride, those around you, your family?

Or will you, determine to discover the life you were born to live, the one created for you from before the foundation of the world?

As I think of the revival, now known as ‘The Toronto Blessing’, this was the message that changed my life, forever. That I have a Father in heaven, that loves me, and will meet with me, and love out my deepest pains, fears, and questions, and from this place of intimacy with Him, I actually get something to give, to a hurting world.

Ps 37:Delight thyself also in the Lord;
and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

If you willingly learn to allow Him to love you, He will change even the desires of your heart, giving you peace instead of tyranny…

Soaking up His love and presence like a sponge, I am one who has been, and who is still being changed, to become more like Jesus.

labor worship

I study, I learn, I pray, I work, and I grow.

This commitment to intimacy and growth, I am learning, is the greatest thing I can do for God, and my fellow man…I hazard to guess, it’s yours too. The first commandment, to love God with ALL of our heart, mind, soul and strength, precedes the second – to love our neighbor as ourselves.

You see, when we truly love Him, He will reach back into us, into the deepest unmet hungers and emotional needs in our hearts, and meet them, with Himself. His passion, intimacy, and presence is like a drug from which there is no greater high. To this, I am an addict, and as I receive my daily ‘fix’, I am able to work with Him, to fix this broken Creation.

I am not you, and you are not me. You are unique, and your gift and calling is different than anyone else’s on the planet.

Yet, you will never find satisfaction in the Creation, until you intimately know Him, your Creator. There is a place of intimacy, He is calling you to….Now!

labor acceptance

2 Corinthians 6:16 and what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

fatherhood God

I know, it seems weird, slowing down so that you can speed up. Schedule time where you sit at His feet. Maybe you can play the audio Bible like I do, and go into ‘soaking’ mode, allowing Holy Spirit to go deep inside your soul, and minister to your deepest hungers. Truly, the fate of the world rests upon it!

Let’s Pray:

‘Father, meet with me. I need You, show me my need, my hungers, passions, longings, that You alone can satiate. Visit me, speak to me, reveal to me Your love, Your presence, Your passion, Your purpose for my life, for I come to Your throne, only by Your shed blood Lord Jesus, the way…Amen’

Give in faith!

1 Corinthians 9:11 If we have sown [the seed of] spiritual good among you, [is it too] much if we reap from your material benefits?

1 Corinthians 9:14 [On the same principle] the Lord directed that those who publish the good news (the Gospel) should live (get their maintenance) by the Gospel.

Paul goes on to say, that he did not use his position as a minister of the gospel to take up offerings, rather he worked, making tents, to support himself. You might notice here, that Paul was not married, nor did he have children. Family responsibilities take time, and just as you bust a move on your job to provide for your family, I work every bit as hard, doing this, faithful to the Lord in prayer and the ministry of His Word, to you.

I will never charge for this: it my responsibility to God, my calling. Freely I have been given, now, I freely give…

As you give, hear Holy Spirit what to give, and honestly expect God to reward you for your giving.

Matt 10: 41 He who receives and welcomes and accepts a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he who receives and welcomes and accepts a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whoever gives to one of these little ones [in rank or influence] even a cup of cold water because he is My disciple, surely I declare to you, he shall not lose his reward.

I am a five-fold ministry gift and office – this is my life – I pray, I hear, I write, and wonderful things happen. You have your job description, I have mine – this is mine….

I have ‘see through’ faith for you, in this: Gal 3: 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

I believe I have a responsibility before God to be like Jesus, in every offering I receive. I receive it with thanksgiving, just like Jesus did the little boys lunch.

Then, because I walk and live by faith according to the blessing of Abraham, I believe that God will take your seed sown, and multiply it, according to what the blessing of Abraham promises:

Genesis 22:17 In blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore. And your Seed (Heir) will possess the gate of His enemies

It has been a joy to me, to see the hand of the living God act in the lives of those of you who have supported us this year!

Many have seen tremendous blessing come into your households, and for this we give thanks, and give Jesus all the glory!
