Prayer and Modern Medicine

As I have walked, and do humbly, daily, prayerfully walk with one of my best friends as he recovers from cancer surgery, the six months in hospital, rehab etc, have left a mark. I am grateful for the 24 hour medical care he has received, and see the gentle hand of Jesus upon his life, as he walks out his faith in God’s promises of divine healing.

In today’s Bible reading, I am encouraged by the story of king Hezekiah.

2 Kings

20 About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: “This is what the Lord says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness.”

² When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, ³ “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly.

⁴ But before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard,^[a] this message came to him from the Lord: ⁵ “Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the Lord. ⁶ I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my own honor and for the sake of my servant David.’”

⁷ Then Isaiah said, “Make an ointment from figs.” So Hezekiah’s servants spread the ointment over the boil, and Hezekiah recovered!

Here we see divine direction for medical care, but ointment was applied, and Hezekiah was healed.

My position with the medical profession is not either/or, rather: BOTH

Stand upon His Word for healing directly, from Him, Then get good medical help wherever possible, always taking Jesus as the overriding physician and specialist on every case.

Let’s Pray:

‘Father, we ask You to heal us today. Grant us wisdom as to the correct use of medical knowledge, to see Your healing manifest. Jesus, we receive You as healer, and presiding specialist on our particular case, Amen’

God’s Word Is Medicine!

God’s Word is medicine

Now this medicine is wonderful medicine. You cannot overdose, and it has wonderful side effects like wisdom, peace, prosperity and so on.

Proverbs 4:

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life

.

Health = marpe: a medicine, a cure, a deliverance, a healing, a remedy, with the sense of soundness and wholeness.

Though I am no Hebrew scholar, my study in Strong’s only shows five verses that this verse is used in. The one above, and the following four verses.

1. Proverbs 12:18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

This is a beautiful verse, when you insert the definition of the word ‘marpe’ into it. Our words, spoken gently, become healing, a remedy, a deliverance, soundness and wholeness to people, and the wisdom of God spoken, will literally produce healing in every area of life.

2. Proverbs 13:17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.In the new testament, or covenant we read: The old Testament, is the new testament concealed, the new testament the old testament revealed.

2 Corinthians 5:20

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God

Ambassadors represent the country that sends them. As citizens of heaven, ambassadors of Christ, we are good news where we are sent, for the kingdom of heaven has no sickness. When God sends us to someone sick or suffering, we heal the sick!

When we reconcile someone to God, the author of all health and life, they get healed!

3. Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Again we see marpe being used for healing of the bones. Why the bones? Science shows us that in the marrow of our bones is where our blood is produced. Scripture tells us that life is in the blood. Healthy bones equal new fresh blood, Life to all of our bodies!

4.Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall

.

Jesus rose from the dead! He is alive! He is the Son of righteousness risen with healing, a remedy, medicine, a deliverance, and soundness in His wings.

Let’s Pray:

Father, I ask You to heal me today! I believe I receive my healing, for I ask in Your name Lord Jesus. As You are working in me, I choose to take the medicine of Your Word, the comfort and anesthetic of Holy Spirit today, trusting You, who cannot lie, to fully bring it to pass. Amen

God is the Healer!

God is the Healer!

Today, as we read through our yearly Bible Reading, I am again struck with this truth:

The priests were the diagnosing physicians, God is the Healer!

Leviticus 13
New International Version (NIV)
13 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 2 “When anyone has a swelling or a rash or a shiny spot on their skin that may be a defiling skin disease,[a] they must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons[b] who is a priest. 3 The priest is to examine …
Any honest doctor, will tell you that though they diagnose, medicate, and perform medical practices, that it is God who heals.
Mark 15: 25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.
Today, as I read our passages, I saw Jesus being crucified, and I saw our healing! (Mark 15, Lev 12, 13 are today’s readings!)
Numbers 21:8
And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
Even as Jesus was lifted up so Moses lifted up the bronze serpent, and anyone that looked upon it, was healed.
John 3:14
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
So Jesus died, not only for our sin, but also for our sickness, that we might find healing, through faith in Him.
Ias 53:4 Surely He hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed.
Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forever, and He is still the Great Physician, the Healer, who longs to heal you, today. Look to Him for your healing….

Let’s Pray:
‘Father God, creator, my God. I need you, to heal me. I believe that Jesus bore my sickness, and carried my pain. I look now to You, to what Jesus did for me upon the cross, and I receive Your healing, now, knowing that I am heard, and answered, for I come in Your great name Lord Jesus, Amen!”
