IT is Written!

It is Written!

Matt 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
v7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Matt 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

In reading of the temptation of Jesus, three times this morning we see Jesus, God the Son, led of the Holy Spirit, being tempted of satan, to disobey or sin against God our Father, Yet, He did not spend hours praying in tongues, worshipping, or binding and loosing, He simply said: It is Written!

How well I have learned that the fight of faith we are called to fight, is all about the Word. When we stand upon the written Word, or rhema Word spoken to us, and simply proclaim it, in the midst of madness, mayhem, and destruction as satan attempts to do what he always does, kill, steal and destroy. We can quietly solemnly respond, ‘It is written!’. When we do, it may seem that nothing has changed, but everything changed!

The very Word we were fighting for, suddenly begins to fight for us!

When Jesus overturned the tables in the temple, again, we read:
Lu 19:46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

God cannot lie. If He said it, or spoke it to you personally, and you believe it, it will surely come to pass, as long as you, whether with shouts of praise, or in quiet solemn whispers, continue to proclaim: ‘It is written!’

Some years ago, when Karen and I were newlyweds, we pioneered a church in a government housing project. Filled with the love of God, we went door to door praying with people, and doing a series of summer concerts in the park/playground area. It worked too, we saw 54 people pray the prayer of salvation that first summer, and we bought an old van, and started bringing children to church until we had as many as 25 children in the basement of the community center where we met, mostly from homes where drug use was prevalent. Over the first four months of ministry two people died from drug overdose in our community, and there were seven crack houses operating. One weekend, the police sent in a SWAT team, and arrested 70 people, and that Sunday at church, we only had five or six people in church, and all of our children had been taken by police, and placed in the foster care system. We cried out to God in anguish asking for his care for these precious children aged 2-8.

Well, on Monday afternoon at 3:30, I received a telephone call from a Children’s Aid Society worker, (This is the Canadian equivilent of the Department of Human Services) saying they had ‘apprehended’ (like they were criminals or something) two precious children aged four and seven, and that after contacting family members, the children asked if they could come stay with pastors Chris and Karen. I said, ‘Let me talk it over with my wife, how long do I have to decide?’ “We close at 4:30, and if you are not here, we are placing them in the shelter” I could hear them crying in the background, and I quickly explained the situation to my wife, and then we jumped in the car, and headed across the city through rush hour traffic. Got there at 4:25, presented ID, and signed for 2 traumatized precious children, who’s parents were either in jail, on on the run from the law.
Jesus cross
As we began the hour drive through bumper to bumper traffic with these children, intermittently crying and asking millions of questions, we tried to comfort them, but they really needed to be hugged and held, and it was not possible in our little Toyota Tercel. Finally, we reached downtown, and traffic was stopped, and these children began to scream, and I, having never been a parent snapped. I loved them, but felt so helpless!

I cried out to Jesus and said: “Jesus, You called me here! You must do something, NOW!

And He did! Instantly, His presence and power swept into the vehicle. All the worry, stress, fear, terror, everything, left, and His power, presence, peace and joy blew in! We all felt it, and began to laugh, and then sang praises all the way back home for the next 45 minutes. I lit a fire in the wood-stove and Karen made hot chocolate while we built a snowman together. We had those precious children for 8 weeks, until mom got outta detox and into rehab, and dad resurfaced, then signed himself into a residential rehabilitation program. It was a rocky road with that family for the next couple years, but that is another story…

Yes, there are onslaughts, tests, and trials in this earth. I’m in one now. Yet, over the decades, the Word has proved entirely faithful and true, for He who spoke that very Word into the earth, ever liveth, and watches carefully over His Word to perform it, with power. I love when He does ‘Suddenlies’, savage breakthroughs of His power and might, yet I have learned not to mistake the spectacular for the supernatural. His Word, believed and acted upon, always produces supernatural results, no matter what we are feeling about it that day.

What was my: ‘It is written‘ that won the battle that day? It was not simply a memorized Scripture verse, no it was the realization that like Jesus, I was only responsible to do the will of our heavenly Father, and that I was in the center of His perfect will at that point, that we are the answer to problems of the day, never to run from them, for we face them in His power.

Proclaim His Promises today, and keep His Word ever before you. When you do, that very Word you placed before you, is working for you, fighting, creating, breaking through impossibilities, just because He can! You too, have a place of perfect obedience, in the will of our heavenly Father, where all hell will face you in your particular gift and calling. Your strength, knowledge, and ability was never designed to win the day, but your faith in God will cause you to prevail – scream at the darkness: IT IS WRITTEN!
shout praise

Let’s Pray:
‘Father, we come before Your throne of grace today, and we bring Your promises before You today, knowing that You are faithful to honor Your Word, and our faith in it. We ask Y ou today for your direction, guidance, provision, prosperity, healing, strength, favor, protection, wisdom, instruction, counsel, knowledge, blessing, forgiveness, mercy, comfort, restoration, breakthroughs, gifts of the Holy Spirit, grace, and the hearing of your voice. We love you Father, and we love you Jesus, and thank you that all of these petitions, come directly from that which you have promised us in Your Word. We believe we receive it, and loose it into our lives by faith, for we have asked in Your mighty name Lord Jesus, Amen.’

2 Chron 1:6 And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
giving
7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.
9 Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

“And the rest is history” as they say.

Solomon became the wisest, richest king Israel had ever had, and under his leadership, for awhile, the nation prospered.

Notice I said, ‘For a while’.

We all know the rest of the story.

Solomon took to himself 1000 wives, and caused Israel to sin, and they ended up divided again, and went into captivity.

What did Solomon ask God for?

Wisdom!
wisdom

Is wisdom good?

Sure is, in fact the word of God calls it ‘the principal thing’

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
wisdom
Twice in my life, have I had God appear to me, leaving me on my face in brokeness before His glory, and both times He has asked me: ‘Ask whatever you will, and I will give it to you.’

Fortunately perhaps, for this generation, I have thought about how I might answer should this happen.

I have seen some of the great ministers of the 80’s and 90’s fall into gross immorality, or handle money unwisely.

Rather than point fingers, I have sought the Lord in prayer for them, and for the call of God upon my life, and these couple verses have come to me:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
holy
I remember the account of Billy Graham visiting Jim Bakker in prison, after the PTL crash, and asking him the question: ‘Jim, when did you stop loving Jesus?’

Jim’s reply still echo’s in my ears: ‘Billy, I never stopped loving Jesus, I just stopped fearing him.’

At some point in my reading, I read a little tiny book by A.W. Tozer entitled: The Knowledge of the Holy.

This verse leaped off the page at me:

Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

I saw it!

It changed my life!

When we have a genuine, authentic encounter with God through Jesus, we discover immediately that He is holy!

This purity, holiness, and incredible light has riveted my attention now for 25 years, and has birthed what I am about to describe to you, as best as my words might do…

Wisdom is good – which is why I lead a Bible study for leaders each week, deliberately seeking God for wisdom, that will produce wealth for the kingdom of God.

Yet, wisdom and wealth are secondary –

For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

Money, without wisdom, will destroy us. We become proud, selfish, and greedy if we are not careful – this is the way of fools.

Yet God’s prosperity, brought God’s way, is designed to bring great blessing to humanity.

Yet, God loves us, and has our eternal destiny, and character development on his mind. For those who have authentically met Him, we discover only He, Himself, can ever satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart.

So, back to my encounters – two of them to be exact.

In each case, after a season of incredibly hard work and sacrifice to get some ministry projects accomplished, He came to me, and asked me what I wanted.

Anything! From the Creator of the Universe!

In each case, through the tears, I have managed to choke out my reply:

‘Father, I want to be holy! I want you to purify my heart, my mind, my motives. I want to know You!’
holy karen

And so, simply verses have come alive over the years:

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

blessed

As we truly see Him, in His glory, we find what all of heaven already knows – He is worthy! He is love! He is awesome! He is the great mystery, forever able to create in us the right questions, then graciously to instruct us, and allow us to use His instruction to the betterment of the earth.

awesome

I guess I feel to ask you these two questions today?

1.What are you giving to Jesus today?

2. What are you asking Him for?

And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory

May this be our prayer today:
Lets pray

Let’s Pray:
‘Father, You said that we would find you, if we sought for you with all of our hearts. Please reveal to us Your glory! I ask this, knowing that I am heard and answered – for I ask in Your name Lord Jesus, Amen.’

The Place Where We Were Was Supernaturally Shaken!

Acts 4:31 When they finished praying, the place where they were meeting was shaken. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim God’s message with boldness.

Holy Spirit

Had this happen today. While pastor Richard fixed an elderly lady’s toilet, I visited with her and her grown daughter. She told me she was 87 years young, and had been faithfully serving the Lord all her life in her Baptist church. She had played the keyboard in her church, and she really loved Jesus, her children, and her grandchildren. So, before we packed up to leave, we decided to pray for one another. As I prayed for her, I literally felt the wind of God come into her dining room, and like a power surge out of my hand into hers while we prayer. I prayed ‘Fill her Holy Spirit, give her fresh oil, and reveal the fire of Your presence!’ She began to scream, and speak in other tongues, and pray for me and my family, and I failed to notice her daughter and pastor Richard run into the kitchen. The glory of God was so evident, I began to laugh in the joy of the Lord!

Joy1

After we wished each other good-bye, Richard said: ‘Did you feel that when you prayed?’ “I sure did I exclaimed” He said ‘Did you hear what happened in the kitchen? I asked what he was talking about: He said that as we were praying, the house shook, so violently, that all the pots and plates in the kitchen began banging so loudly, that he and the woman’s daughter, ran in there to see what was going on. Everything was shaking supernaturally, making a loud clanging, that neither the woman or I even heard.

She insisted on having us sing with her: Heavenly Father, I appreciate you…’

Truly the final chapters of the book of Acts have yet to be written, and God is on the move in the United States of America.

Acts

Let’s Pray:

‘Father, we do appreciate you! Send Your power again. Come Holy Spirit, and breath Your love, Your power, presence, and passion. Fill us with fresh oil, new wine, the fire of Your love, in Your name I cry out Lord Jesus, Amen’
